This is an honest question…

… and that is:

As a computer user (I assume that if you’re here, you are moderately functional) how much, or how detailed would you like the the installation and training materials that go along with the software applications you use?  This question pops into my head after reading a post by Dave over at Intellectual Cramps about documentation, and some of the work that I am trying to finish up as I prepare to get away from The University of Akron.

I am currently working on the Design Document to go along with a database that we built in the ancient history that was 2008 and one of the principle users is requesting very detailed, long winded, and graphical walkthroughs of the ENTIRE process — which to me essintially is akin to me attempting to document my entire graduate program for him.  So I am starting to seek outside input because there are still a number of lengthy and lofty goals that we would like to accomplish before  9 May and although this document is one of them, if we can thrift it to a point, we will have more time to work on making the database available to more of the University staff and faculty to use.tabbeddocument

Because ultimately that is what I would like to leave here; a fully functional, and ultimately useable web application for the staff and faculty of the University.  The information has existed, but not in a readable, or accessible format, and with the speed of change now the information has to be there at Jack Bauer/ Chloe O’Brian speed if not faster.  (I know y’all love the 24 reference).
